Birgit Glorius

Birgit Glorius is a Professor of Human Geography with a focus on European Migration Studies at Chemnitz University of Technology, Germany. She researches all forms of migration and its consequences for regions of origin and arrival, such as transnationalism. In recent years, she focused on the reception of forced migrants in Europe, analyzing the frameworks of reception presented by local governments, NGOs and local populations, but also the trajectories of forced migrants. She mainly works in research fields in Germany, East Central Europe, and the Western Balkans, often in larger international cooperation and financed by funding sources such as the European Commission. She is chair of the scientific advisory board of the German Agency for Migration and Refugees’ Research Centre and a member of the German Expert Council on Integration and Migration. Birgit is not only very active in the field of academic publishing, but she also presents results of her research and recommendations to the public on various occasions and is often cited by the German media. These activities stem from her understanding of science as a tool to promote well-being and social justice worldwide.
