Francisco Cordeiro de Araújo teaches International and European Union Law at the University of Lisbon. He is President of Democracia 2.3 and founder of Os 230, an award-winning civic initiative promoting democratic participation, political literacy, and dialogue between citizens and institutions. Its flagship projects include interviews with political leaders, Democracy in Schools, and the 230 Citizens’ Assembly, a deliberative model inspired by the Portuguese Parliament’s committee system. In 2026, he travelled to Ukraine on four occasions while producing the documentary Mayday Maidan: An Alert from Ukraine, exploring international law violations, resilience, and the human impact of war. Francisco collaborates with European Union institutions and the Council of Europe on democracy, civic engagement, and the rule of law, and has participated in COP26 and COP29. He previously served as President of ELSA Portugal and National Coordinator of Cama Solidária. His work has been recognised with the Tágides Award 2024 and the Citizenship Award 2021 for outstanding contributions to civic engagement and democratic participation.
