Sara Šariri

Sara Šariri is a PhD student in biology from Croatia. During her student internship in Lisbon at the Biotox Laboratory for Ecotoxicology and Biomonitoring (Center for Marine and Environmental Sciences) she became interested in ecotoxicology. After completing her studies in Environmental Sciences at the University of Zagreb (2015-2021), she started working as a research assistant at the Ruđer Bošković Institute in the Laboratory for Biological Effects of Metals. With her team, she studies the effects of environmental pollution on freshwater organisms. To share the results of her latest studies and learn about new topics, she often participates in conferences and science popularization events, where she enjoys explaining her research to the public and educating young people about environmental issues. Recently, she and her team have been focusing more on freshwater microplastic pollution. From September 2022 to April 2023, she participated in the Erasmus+ project “Young Climate Professionals” organized by THE CIVICS Innovation Hub, where she developed the idea for her project „Understanding microplastics in our water“ and won the financial prize to carry it out. The project aims to educate students about the global problem of plastic pollution and inspire them to act, but also generate valuable research data.
