José Ignacio Torreblanca

José Ignacio Torreblanca is the director of the Madrid office and senior policy fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR). He is also professor of political science at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) in Madrid. He is a weekly columnist for the newspaper El Mundo as author of the blog “Café Steiner”, and a weekly contributor to RNE and RTVE. Previously, he was the editorial director of El País, where he was also the author of a weekly column in the international section and a blog.

Torreblanca is a member of the editorial board of the online magazine on global politics Esglobal, the magazine Política Exterior and the magazine Ethic, as well as a member of the scientific council of the Real Instituto Elcano and the board of trustees of the Felipe González Foundation. He is also a member of the advisory board and director of the scientific committee of the Hermes Institute, dedicated to the promotion of digital rights.

Torreblanca holds a PhD in Political Science from the Complutense University of Madrid.
